Pearl Williams/Cecilia Drennan Memorial Scholarship

Pearl Williams

Williams is a New Iberia native who moved to Slidell 1972 from Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Williams was first elected to the City Council in 1982. She served on the 9-11 Memorial, Slidell Beautification and Garbage Review committees and was chairwoman of the 1988 Slidell Centennial Committee.

She has been recognized for her dedication to the community both as a City Council member and a volunteer working to help local children. In April she was named the 2006 Volunteer of the Year by the United Way Serving St. Tammany.

She is a past president of the Slidell Republican Women's Club. It was because of her dedication to community service and SRWC that a scholarship memorial was started in her name, and why the SRWC Superior Leadership Award is named after her.

Cecelia Drennan

Cecelia Drennan was a member of the Slidell Republican Women’s Club for many years. She was the Treasurer and also President. Cecelia fought the good fight against cancer all along never missing a meeting or event. She passed away 6 months before the end of her 2nd term as President. A week before she passed she conducted a Board Meeting where she assured the board she was doing fine. Her courage was an inspiration to SRWC members who loved her positive spirit.

Cecelia, was also First Lady of Slidell, when her husband Freddy Drennan became Mayor of Slidell. Cecelia was a member of First Baptist Church of Slidell where she participated in many of their outreach programs. She was also involved in the Keep Slidell Beautiful Program. She was also a member of the Slidell Garden Club and was a certified master gardener.

Cecelia was the person that you knew your life had been enriched because you came to know her. Her positive attitude and her uplifting spirit is the reason SRWC believes this memorial scholarship should include her. Cecilia began this scholarship in honor of Councilwoman Pearl Williams in 1999.
