Schedler to speak at Republican Women'sClub

Louisiana Secretary of State Tom Schedler will be the guest speaker at the upcoming Slidell Republican Women's Club's luncheon. He will address the importance of voting and the mechanics of voter registration and running elections.
This luncheon will be held Jan. 30 at Pinewood Country Club in Slidell. The doors will open at 10:30 a.m., and the luncheon will begin promptly at 11 a.m. These luncheons are open to the public.
All reservations and any cancellations for this luncheon are required no later than Jan. 28. To RSVP, contact hospitality co-chairman Betty Hooper, bettysuew@bellsouth.net.
Cost of the luncheon is $20 per person. Walk-ins are not guaranteed a meal or a place to sit at these luncheons. Those who RSVP, but later decide not to attend or are unable to attend, but who don't notify the club by Jan. 28, will be billed if their place at the luncheon cannot be sold.
Current SRWC president Lynn St. Jean notes that guests and new members are always welcome to SRWC events.
The SRWC not only supports local, state and national Republican candidates for elected office, but also is involved in several local charitable activities. Prospective new members may be interested in helping with some of these services such as the Literacy Project; the Pearl Williams/Cecelia Drennan Scholarship project; or the Pearl Williams Outstanding Leadership Award project.

Senator Crowe to speak at SRWC luncheon
State Senator A.G. Crowe will be the guest speaker at the Feb. 27 meeting of the Slidell Republican Women's Club's (SRWC) luncheon. He will provide information on the upcoming Legislative Session, specifically the Common Core State Standards, which begins March 10.
Doors will open at 10:30 a.m., and the luncheon will begin at 11 a.m. at Pinewood Country Club, 405 Country Club Blvd., Slidell. There will be a brief time allotted for questions from the audience.
SRWC President Lynn St. Jean stressed the public is welcome to attend, however reservations and cancellations are required by Feb. 25. Slidell Mayor Freddy Drennan will address the members of the Slidell RepublicanWomen's Club (SRWC) at the Annual Awards Banquet tomorrow. The evening banquet will be held at Pinewood Country Club in Slidell. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., dinner will begin at 7 p.m.
The Pearl Williams Superior Leadership Award and the Pearl Williams/ Cecelia Drennan Scholarship are also presented at this annual event.
This dinner meeting is open to the general public as well. The cost is $25 per person; and reservations are required.
As a reminder to club members and guests, if reservations are not cancelled within 48 hours, and if the SRWC cannot re-sell the reservations, the maker of the reservations will be billed.

Elvira Adrienne Block Gordon (Vi) entered into eternal rest on July 13, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents Melanie and Louis A. Block, her sister Myrle Block, and her beloved husband Gerard W. Gordon. She is survived by her daughter, Carole Gordon Gillio and her husband Larry Gillio, Sr. and her son, Greg Gordon and his wife Lynn Arnold Gordon. She is also survived by her brothers Adrian Block, Louis E. (Diggy) Block, Douglas F. Block (Helen), and Horace Block. She leaves behind her grandchildren Larry Gillio, Jr., Gerry Gillio, Douglas Gillio (Rachel) and Melanie Gordon Dunn (Brian), as well as five great-grandchildren and a host of much loved nieces, nephews, and caring friends.
Elvira was born on June 6, 1913 in New Orleans. She served in the USO during World War II, receiving numerous commen dations. She worked for the Federal Government at the Port of Embarkation in New Orleans. She was a homemaker and a resident of Slidell, LA since 1999. She was a devout parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Slidell and a member of the Slidell Republican Women's Club. She recently celebrated her 101st birthday with friends and family.
Thanks to the staff and residents of Camellia Gardens Retirement Community whose caring and friendship she cherished.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name can be made to Children's Wish Endowment (PO Box 1259, Slidell, LA 70459) OR CASA/Court Appointed Special Advocates (150 Cleveland Ave., Slidell, LA 70458).
A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Slidell, 400 Westchester Blvd. at 1:00 p.m. on July 16, 2014. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the church. A private burial will be held at a later date.

The Slidell Republican Women's Club will hold its annual holiday gift auction and luncheon on Dec. 4. This is the club's biggest fund-raiser each year to pay for the scholarships the club awards, the club said in a news release.
The event begins at 10:30 a.m. at Pinewood Country Club, off Robert Boulevard. The cost is $18 per person; reservations must be made by Dec. 1.

Guests are also requested to donate a wrapped gift valued at approximately $25, with no name tag or identifiers, for the auction, the club said in a news release. The proceeds from gift auction go to fund the SRWC Pearl Williams/Cecelia Drennan Memorial Scholarship, which is annually presented to high school senior girls, the club said.
St. Tammany Parish Councilman Gene Bellisario, Slidell Mayor Freddy Drennan and St. Tammany District Court Judge Scott Gardner will help with the auction, the club said.
New SRWC officers will also be installed at the luncheon: Peggy Seeley, president; Tiffany Parker, vice president; Chris Koviach, secretary; Karen Fandal, treasurer; Charlene Stein, program chair; Lynn Walker St. Jean, campaign chair; Heidi Crouch, newsletter chair; Wanda Ricau, membership chair; Betty Hooper and Nancy Bell, co-chairs of hospitality; Peggy Goertz, scholarship chair; and Dee Webb, sunshine.
