Marguerite N. Scogin, a retired teacher at Slidell Junior High School, died Wednesday at her home. She was 81. Mrs. Scogin was born in Washington and lived in Slidell for many years. She was a member of the Republican Women's Club, Conserve Political Action Committee, Friends of the Library, Guardians of History and The 50-Year Club. Survivors include her husband, Douglas S. Scogin of Slidell; a son, Douglas S. "Skip" Scogin Jr. of Slidell; a daughter, Susan F. Scogin of LaCombe; a brother, Robert Nicholson of Opelousas; and two sisters, Miriam "Sis" Lyman and Mercedes "Junie" DeJean, both of Opelousas. A funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. West in Slidell. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Thais Mischler Siverd, a homemaker, died Friday at Ketchikan General Hospital in Alaska. She was 76. Mrs. Siverd was born in New Orleans and lived in Slidell for the past 20 years. She was a member of the Slidell Republican Women's Club, president and member of the Slidell Women's Garden Club, a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and Bethany Care Group. Survivors include three sons, Clifton H., of Mandeville, Keith C., of St. Bernard, and Mark G. Siverd of Madisonville; and nine grandchildren. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Slidell. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Honaker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

911 proposal is discussed

Col. Glenn Farrar and Bill Price presented a program on the 911 proposition at the Slidell Women's Republican Club's September meeting. The proposition passed on the Oct. 7 ballot.

The club will have its annual membership coffee Friday at 10 a.m. at the home of Sharon Barker on Bayou Paquet Road.

A special guest will be Commissioner of Elections and Registration Suzanne Haik Terrel. Terrel is the first Republican woman to hold statewide office.

Also attending will be Andy Kopplin, Gov. Foster's assistant chief of staff and director of policy and planning. He will give a short presentation on the proposed constitutional amendment to create Louisiana Inc.

This meeting is specifically being held to welcome guests interested in joining the Slidell Women's Republican Club.
