HISTORY OF THE SLIDELL REPUBLICAN WOMEN
The Slidell Republican Women's Club was founded in 1967 and has been an active and effective factor in the political affairs of Slidell, St. Tammany Parish and the state of Louisiana. The club was founded by a group of ladies including Mrs. Perry Rowe, who was the first acting President. SRWC celebrated their 50th anniversary in February of 2017.Since SRWC's inception, the group has participated in local, state, and national elections. They have maintained political headquarters, mailed and handed out literature on issues, rang doorbells, made telephone calls on behalf of their candidates, presented speakers to the public, and enjoyed monthly educational and social meetings. The SRWC has participated in the Mamie Eisenhower program by handing out dictionaries in the public schools and donating books to the local library. They have supported the veterans and the locals teen Republicans of Slidell. They also award a young lady with a college scholarship every year and present a Superior Leadership award to someone deserving in the community.Chartered as a unit of the Louisiana Federation of Republican Women and the National Federation of Republican Women, the club has fostered widespread cooperation in all phases of Republican involvement. Many members have been on city, parish, and state federation boards; have run for elected office successfully and unsuccessfully, maintained a strong presence as representatives of fiscal and social conversation. The women attracted to SRWC are a credit to the community, sewing in many and varied activities of service as volunteers. The number of members continues to grow, reflecting the club's policy of offering opportunities for full participation to those who are willing to commit time, effort, and talents to the club's Republican objectives.
