Republican Women’s Club honors lawyer

Slidell lawyer Deanna Hamilton-Lamz was recently the recipient of the SlidellRepublican Women’s Club Superior Leadership Award.
Nominated by Laura Leonard and Slidell Councilwoman Marti Livaudais, Lamz was recognized for her dedication to the community and, specifically, to women’s issues.
Also honored by her nomination for the award was Joan Holmes, who was recognized with a bouquet of flowers presented by Beth Royer, awards committee chairwoman.
The club also recently held its installation of officers for 2004-05. Patricia Schwarz Core was the installing officer. Taking their oaths of office were Suzan Wilson, Laura Leonard, Susan Carpenter, June Erickson, Beth Royer, Elizabeth Schneider and Mary Bishop.

Rita Camille Littell Burch, a homemaker, died Thursday at her home. She was 81. Mrs. Burch was born in Opelousas and lived in Slidell for the past 22 years. She was a graduate of the University of Southwest Louisiana in Lafayette, where she was senior class president. She was a member of the Republican Women’s Club, the Camellia Club and Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority and had been a volunteer for community organizations and in local Catholic schools. Survivors include her husband, Warren Earl Burch; three sons, David P. and Randy Burch and Warren E. Burch Jr.; two daughters, Gwen Leininger and Elizabeth A. Saylor; a brother, Buddy Littell; two sisters, Janice Howard and Carolyn Gardiner; and 11 grandchildren. A Mass will be said Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, 910 Cross Gates Blvd. in Slidell. Visitation will be today from 7 to 10 p.m. at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. West, and on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Janelle Valentine Ward, a homemaker, died Friday at her home. She was 78. Mrs. Ward was born in Rison, Ark., and lived in Pearl River for the past 27 years. She graduated from Rison High School, where she was valedictorian. She was a volunteer for Northshore Regional Medical Center and was a Red Cross volunteer in San Diego in the 1960s. She was a member of the Slidell Republican Women’s Club. Survivors include her husband, J.D. "Jake" Ward; a daughter, Susan Allen of New Orleans; a brother, Benjamin Landers of Arkansas City, Ark.; a sister, Maggie Gibson of Anahuac, Texas; and a grandchild. No services will be held. Schoen Funeral Home in Slidell is in charge of arrangements.
